Moving to Ontario?
For insurance purposes, when relocating from another province to Ontario, you must obtain the following documents to submit to your new Ontario insurance provider (broker):
For HOME insurance coverage:
- Experience letter (This letter of experience provides your insurance history, obtainable from your present insurance provider preferably for the last five years in order to be eligible for the best discount)
For AUTO insurance coverage:
- Experience letter (This letter of experience provides your insurance history, obtainable from your present insurance provider for the last 10 years in order to be eligible for the best discount)
- Drivers Abstract (This document provides information on your driving record, obtainable through the Ministry of Transportation)
- Presently the amount of time to obtain an Ontario Driver’s License is 3 months
- A Safety Check is also required to register a vehicle in Ontario – a safety check is good for 30 days (vehicle must be registered in Ontario within 30 days of the safety check)
- An emission test is also required and is valid for one year from registration
